Raw Homemade Lemonade!

RAW HOMEMADE LEMONADE!!

I absolutely love a glass of lemonade when the weather is warm, and it can't just be any ole lemonade!! This raw homemade version is super delicious!! Not sure if you've ever read the label on store bought lemonade, but it has a lot of ingredients in it. For example, here's the ingredient label on one store bought version that actually claims to have no artificial sweetners or flavors.

Ingredients
Sugar, Fructose, Citric Acid, Contains Less than 2% of Maltodextrin, Natural Flavor, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Sodium Acid Pyrophosphate, Sodium Citrate, Magnesium Oxide, Calcium Fumarate, Soy Lecithin, Artificial Color, Yellow 5 Lake, Tocopherol (Preserves Freshness).

It's too bad they have to throw in artificial colors! So, skip the chemicals and try this super healthy 2 ingredient recipe!!

INGREDIENTS
1 whole lemon unpeeled
3 apples (I used gala)

This was enough for 2 small glasses. (this will also depend on how much juice your juicer yields too) If you are serving a large group, just adjust the amounts above in the 1:3 ratio. If your taste buds prefer it a little different, play with the amounts and adjust it to your liking. This has just been my favorite ratio so far!!
Here's my kid version! I added about 4 carrots to the recipe above just to add a little veggie, but without drastically changing the taste. Gabe loved it, and Eric drank the rest. He was surprised at how much it actually tasted like lemonade despite it's

 orange color!

A Happy Mother!

Well, I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day with your mother's, children, or other friends or family! I had a wonderful weekend so I thought I would share a small portion of it! My husband was actually gone for the weekend so I spent it with my Aunt in Indiana. Gabe and I had a fabulous time. I woke up on Sunday morning to this:

They are so precious when they sleep!
We drove 6 hours and stopped at my mother's on our way home. We have horses so Gabe has already become a big fan and requested to see the horses as soon as we got to the farm. I was not opposed:-)

My Aunt sent me home with some fresh tomatoes so guess what I had for dinner? Yep, the tomatoes and a fresh raw ear of corn! It was delicious! Since this is a food blog, I had to share at least one food picture!!

And, to top the night off, my husband had this super sweet photo book made for me for Mother's Day! Below are just a few of the many pages in the book. The captions are a bit hard to read so I placed them below the photos!

I  have learned a few things in my 2 yrs. I wanted to share with you. I have listed them in the pages that follow. Oh, and don't you want to stay home with me?? (that last sentence is a little inside joke of ours)

I love this picture mommy! Life is so precious....enjoy the little moments and snuggle me all day!

It's ok to be silly sometimes.

Mommy, you're silly!

Be sure to always clean your plate! I love your, all-natural, whole grain, vitamin rich, mineral dense, raw soup!
HaHa! I love that my husband used 5 adjectives to describe the food I feed Gabe:-)

Enjoy the nice weather and even go for a swing sometimes. I love swinging with you Mommy!

Play in the country any chance you get! Look at me Mommy! See how high I can climb!

Oh and one more thing mommy......love on daddy! He's the best! Daddy...please find my sock...my lil piggies are getting cold!

That last one made me laugh!! I am so incredibly blessed to have these two men in my life! I love them more than words can describe.

Food Revolution Day!

Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution!!

In case some of you aren't aware, Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution Day is coming up on Saturday, May 19th. Jamie Oliver is passionate about healthy non-processed food and although he doesn't promote completely raw food, he believes in eating healthy whole foods. My diet is of course high raw, but when I do eat anything cooked, I shoot for organic whole foods (meat free) that are unprocessed. I also choose to feed my family this way because I care about what they put into their bodies. Here's two small paragraphs from Jamie's website:

We're losing the war against obesity in the US. It's sad, but true. Our kids are growing up overweight and malnourished from a diet of processed foods, and today's children will be the first generation ever to live shorter lives than their parents. It's time for change. It's time for a Food Revolution.
Food Revolution Day…is a chance for people who love food to come together to share information, talents and resources; to pass on their knowledge and highlight the world’s food issues…We want to inspire change in people’s food habits and to promote the mission for better food and education for everyone.

I just love how much he fights for our American kid's diet! They are the ones that we need to reach before it's too late! I have too often seen young kids in the emergency room that are obese and already starting a life of poor health and dependency on the medical field, when all they need to do is eat right! If for no other reason, let's help our children!

In an effort to help support Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution in the Madison area, Cathartic Cuisine invited The Ironstone NestMilk & Honey Living and Rawfully Wonderful to join in an effort to promote Jamie's Food Revolution Day! This is so exciting to me and I'm honored to be a part of it! In honor of The Food Revolution, we will be hosting a dinner party on Friday May 18th that will include local, organic, whole foods that are prepared and made by us....with love!

I would love to hear if any of you are doing anything similar in your areas!! If you're not, you have 11 days to get started!! It might seem impossible to change the eating habits of American's, but it has to start somewhere, so why not with you!

Really Really Green Juice

I was trying to use up produce in the frig, while trying to make a really really green juice. Here's what I ended up with:

3 apples
1 bunch of cilantro
1 large cucumber
1/2 small lime
3-4 large handfuls of spinach
2 frozen squares of wheat grass (or fresh if you have it)

It actually tasted pretty mild from what I expected. I enjoyed it. Didn't take a picture of the finished product because it pretty much looks like every other green juice! This is an excellent way to start off your morning! Nice and alkalizing!

Swiss Chard Juice

2-3 stalks and leaves of swiss chard
1 large bunch of parsley
1 whole lime
1 medium sized knob of ginger
3-4 apples

This had a distinct taste to it, which was refreshing. It's always good when you add different greens and varieties of things. I didn't take a picture of the end product, but as you can imagine was a shade of green:-)
